Danube4all travels to Belgrade
Funded by the EU's Horizon Europe, the
Danube4all project aims to restore freshwater ecosystems across the Danube River Basin. The project's innovative approach integrates scientific research with practical solutions to enhance river connectivity and biodiversity.
The second General Assembly of the project took place in Serbia and brought together experts, stakeholders, and community members to discuss the restoration of the Danube River Basin and highlight the importance of sustainable ecosystems. During the three days of the event, activities included presentations, workshops, a beautiful boat field trip, and lots of networking opportunities.
Key Highlights
Workshops and Discussions: Experts shared their knowledge on the latest scientific advancements and practical methodologies for river restoration. Specific topics were river connectivity assessment, species data modeling, fish monitoring, and efforts to boost citizen science implementation and co-creation at the demo sites.
Community Engagement: Activities aimed at educating the public about the ecological and socio-economic benefits of healthy river systems. Interactive sessions were held highlighting the importance of clean, free-flowing rivers for both human and ecological health.
Collaborative Efforts: Involvement of scientists, policymakers, and local communities in developing sustainable restoration practices. The event showcased successful case studies from various parts of the Danube Basin, demonstrating how collaborative efforts can lead to significant ecological improvements.
The event also highlighted the role of nature-based solutions in promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of life for communities along the Danube. The discussions emphasized that restoring river ecosystems is not only an environmental priority but also a socio-economic necessity, benefiting tourism, fisheries, and local economies.
The cherry on top
In the last day, a plenary session was held and work package presentations for regional stakeholders, offering a broader project perspective and new insights. After, the successful second General Assembly was concluded with the launch of two Danube4all initiatives - the Healthy Danube Network and Danube Travelling Exhibition – and a World Fish Migration Day celebration!
Looking Ahead
