Fiskmarknad (Fish market) is a concept founded by the World Fish Migration Foundation in the Netherlands. Fiskmarknad (Vismarkt) have previously been organized in the Netherlands in 2011 and 2013. In Scandinavia, Fiskmarknad first came to Karlstad in 2013 and was followed by the fish market (Kalamarkkinat) in Finland, 2015.
The upcoming Fish Markets:
The introduction of the European Union’s Water Framework Directive (WFD), Swedish national environmental goals and the implementation of the EU Eel council regulation, as well as regional projects, has intensified the need to solve fish migration problems. In the future, both power plant owners and authorities will have to take more action to create and improve fish passage solutions and fish migration. Currently, there are a variety of solutions to migration barriers, both those that are in the planning stage and those that are already implemented and evaluated.
Nature-like fishways are becoming increasingly common, as are projects to improve downstream passage conditions, something that was unheard of until just a few years ago. In addition there is a need to monitor the efficiency and success of existing fish passage solutions in order to find what works and what improvements need to be done. If we are to improve our results and products and increase our cost effectiveness then it’s time to share the latest in news, research and practical experiences from within this dynamic and exciting field.
Fiskmarknad is aimed at fisheries managers, power companies, consultants, government agencies, universities, non-governmental interest groups and organisations, equipment retailers and all other interested parties.
